What to Expect

What to Expect

Hiking can be whatever you want it to be!  Sometimes it’s nice to just relax and take a slow walk, and sometimes it’s fun to challenge yourself with how far you can go!  However you like to hike, it’s a great way to experience nature firsthand.

Gear Up!

Gear Up!

When you go hiking, make sure you’re prepared!  Always let someone know where you’re going, and be sure to bring a water bottle with you to stay hydrated.  It’s a great idea to bring a snack (such as a granola bar) for energy as well…and never forget sunscreen!

Dress Cool

What to Wear

When you’re in the forest, it’s important to make sure you’re properly protected.  Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes that will protect your feet from the elements.

Long pants and long-sleeved shirts are also important, so you don’t cut your legs on branches as you pass by, or if you come across some poison oak!  And don’t forget to wear a hat for sun protection!

You Might See…

Hiking is all about the sights and sounds of the forest!  There are so many beautiful things, from the ‘big picture’ of a colorful horizon to the smallest rocks on the ground.

Look around you!  How many different kinds of trees do you see?  Are there flowers around?  Take a break, sit on a rock and look around you for unique plants, tiny critters and interesting rocks.
